First week checklist
- Set up a quiet “safe space” with food, water, bedding, and a hide
- Keep routines predictable (same feeding and rest schedule)
- Let your new companion initiate contact; avoid forced handling at first
- Use play (wand toys) to build confidence and bond
- Schedule a wellness visit with your vet within 2–4 weeks
Supplies to have ready
- Carrier (hard-sided preferred), scratchers, and interactive toys
- Bathroom/waste supplies (pads, litter, bags) based on your companion
- Food/water bowls (or a fountain) and familiar food
- Enzyme cleaner for accidents
- Nail trimmers and grooming tools (as needed)
